Welcome to Dibleys' Press and Media Page
We are a second generation, family-run business, based in rural North Wales. We are the specialist growers of rare and unusual houseplants and have won 34 Chelsea Gold Medals for our plants. One of our USPs is that we propagate and grow ALL our own plants. No plugs or plants are bought in.
We have lots of info on this page, photos and contact details. Get in touch if you have any questions.

Begonia'Phantom'
Shown for the first time at Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2024, we think this will be a resoundingly successful debut for Begonia 'Phantom'.
Another show-stopper, 'Phantom' is part of our new range of dramatic varieties bred and introduced by Dibleys.
The leaves are pointed, deep burgundy with a hint of red and silver spots. A bushy variety that freely throws up new growth from the base. Bred by Lynne Dibley.

Shortlisted for Chelsea Plant of the Year 2024
Begonia Stellar Storm.
We are very excited by Begonia ‘Stellar Storm!' This is a new style of colourful-leaved begonia. Similar in style to Begonia Rex but a tougher and a more resilient plant that is less affected by changes in humidity and temperature. With striking burgundy, red and silver striped, spiral-shaped leaves boast unique spiked edges, making it a distinctive addition to any collection. Minimum 5C, Begonia ‘Stellar Storm’ will flourish in dappled light or partial shade. Bold, vibrant this plant has everything
Bred by Lynne Dibley and exhibited by Dibleys Nurseries.

New houseplants for 2024
Begonia Moulin Rouge
Quite a showstopper! Every leaf has a bright, ruby-red centre and dark veins. The wide, silver band towards the edge of the leaf gives a brightness that lifts the leaf from ordinary to extraordinary. A tight growing plant that produces masses of bright, pointed leaves. Bred at Dibleys.

Celebrating Rex and Cynthia:Cynthia Dibley (1932-2023)Rex Dibley(1932-2024)
This year, Gareth, Lynne and Paul (the Dibley siblings) are putting together a colourful display at Chelsea to celebrate the lives of their mother, Cynthia and father, Rex.
Dibleys' are celebrating the life of Cynthia with the vibrant namesake, Streptocarpus 'Cynthia' at the Chelsea Flower Show 2024. Introduced by Rex, her husband and founder of the nursery, the colourful variety is included as a tribute to the 25 gold medal displays at Chelsea they helped create. At 91 years old, Cynthia continued working on the nursery until the day she passed in August 2023.

Sadly, Rex Dibley passed away on 25 April 2024. Rex Dibley probably did more to popularise the now well-known houseplant, Streptocarpus, than anyone else.
Rex was always interested in botany (and gained a degree in Botany from Exeter University in 1954). Rex’s interest in Streptocarpus began when in the early 1970’s a school’s groundskeeper (Rex was a well-respected biology teacher for many years) gave him Streptocarpus ‘Constant Nymph’. This gift led to the whole greenhouse at home being taken over by these plants.
Dibleys’ Nurseries has to date won 33 Chelsea Medals and over 200 RHS Gold Medals (more than any other nursery).
In 2007, Rex Dibley was awarded the Veitch Memorial Medal by the RHS, given to 'persons of any nationality who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement and improvement of the science and practice of horticulture'.
Dibleys Streptocarpus 'Harlequin Blue' won the inaugural Chelsea Plant of the Year 2010
Dibleys' Streptocarpus 'Harlequin Blue' was named as the President’s Choice RHS Chelsea Plant of the Decade (2010-20). Dibleys were named as RHS Master Grower in 2018.
Many of the plants bred at Dibleys hold the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM)
Rex was father to Gareth, Lynne and Paul, and they have all now taken on the responsibility and honour of running Dibleys Nurseries.

Streptocarpus Lisette - A Colour Transformation from Violet to Yellow
Take a risk and be bold with these stunning violet-blue flowers!
The vibrant colour is accented by veins over a yellow base, creating a dynamic contrast.
As the flower ages, the yellow becomes more prominent, adding to its unique beauty. The striking, ruffled edges on these large blooms will surely pique your interest.
Streptocarpus Lisette is expertly bred at Dibleys over several years. Its exceptional flowers bloom continuously, making it a standout in any garden. With a lovely habit, this plant will add beauty and charm to your garden for a long time.

Michael Perry - Mr Plant Geek says...
I suggest you get yourself to the Dibleys website, quick steps!! Visit if you can; it's a magical place in the middle of the countryside - plus, the family garden next door to the glass house is well worth a visit too.

We have planted many thousand native trees to form a shelter belt around the nursery.

We currently have 2 electric vehicles.
We are currently moving to beige coloured pots which are kerb-side recyclable.
